The finish is decided before the first sheet goes up, because it changes how the edges are framed and flushed. Most Perth homes use cove cornice. Renovations and extensions are increasingly square set or shadowline.

How is a gyprock ceiling installed?
Plenty of people search for how to gyprock a ceiling. This is what a proper install involves, and why the fixing pattern matters more than anything else in Perth's climate.

Set out and check the framing
Joists or battens checked for level and spacing. Anything out of line is packed or fixed now, because plasterboard shows every bump above it.

Sheet layout
Sheets run across the joists with joints staggered and kept away from windows and light sources where possible, so joins do not show in raking light.

Fix the board
Adhesive plus screws on a proper pattern at every joist. This is where older Perth ceilings went wrong: glue with too few screws.

How much does a new gyprock ceiling cost in Perth?
New ceilings are quoted per square metre from your plans or a site visit, and the quote is free. The price depends on the area, ceiling height, cornice or square set finish and any bulkheads. As a guide, replacing the ceiling in an existing standard room runs $2,500 to $6,000. New work in an extension has no demolition, so it is priced on the board and finish alone.
How do you gyprock a ceiling properly?
Check the joists are level and correctly spaced, run the sheets across the joists with staggered joints, fix with adhesive plus screws at every joist, then tape the joints and screw heads and set them with three coats, feathered wider each time, before sanding flat. Skipping screws and relying on glue is why so many older Perth ceilings sag.
Do you do square set ceilings?
Yes. Square set is a clean 90 degree junction between ceiling and wall with no cornice. It takes more care in the flushing because there is nothing to hide an uneven line, which is exactly the sort of finish we take pride in. We also do shadowline and traditional cove cornice.
How long does it take to install a new ceiling?
A single room is usually sheeted, flushed and sanded within a couple of days, allowing for the setting coats to dry between coats. Whole house packages are scheduled to your build program. We give you a clear timeframe with the quote and keep to it.
Do you supply the plasterboard or do I?
We supply and install. That means the right board for each area, including wet area board for bathrooms and laundries, the correct screws and adhesive, cornice and setting compounds, all included in the fixed quote.
Do you paint the new ceiling?
No. We leave every ceiling flushed, sanded and paint ready, which is the point where your painter takes over. Keeping the trades separate keeps the price sharp and lets you use the painter doing the rest of the house.
Can you install ceilings in a garage, studio or granny flat?
